What is Urinary Tract Infection
Urinary tract infection is a general term for an infection by bacteria, usually Escherichia coli. It affects the whole urinary tract which consist of the urethra (responsible for clearing urine), bladder (stores the urine), ureter (transport urine from kidney to the bladder) and lastly the kidneys.
Medical discoveries have state that women are at a higher risk of UTI than men. This is due to their shorter urethra. Although urine is expelled out of our body, urine does not contain any harmful bacteria.
UTI can cause the sufferers to feel extremely uncomfortable, however, with a prescription by the doctor and with home remedies, it can be cured easily.
Urinary tract infection happens when bacteria gets into the urinary tract through the entrance of the urethra and slowly multiply themselves in the bladder. An infection occurs when multiplying of the bacteria starts in various parts of the urinary tract.
There are some medical terms given to the infections. A bacteria infection is known as urethritis. A bladder bacteria infection is called cystitis. And if the bacteria reaches the kidney and multiply, the UTI is called pyelonephritis. Should the kidney become infected, medical attention is needed. There are different symptoms for different types of infection.

Young women are prone to this infection when they become sexually active. During sex, bacteria and body fluid has a higher chance of entering the urethra. Or the urethra might suffer injuries during the intercourse and bacteria seeps into the urinary path from it.
Women who practices safe sex by using contraceptives devices have a higher chance to bring infected than women who does not have sex.
Diabetics are another group that have a higher chance to getting UTI. Their weaker immune system are the cause of them having higher chance.
Babies are the next group of people to get UTI easily. As they wore diapers, bacteria could easily spread around and enter into the urinary tract. Thus change an infant’s diaper regularly to prevent this occurrence.
