Types Of Health And Home Care Services

A large portion of America’s population is aging fast, and soon many of them will require home care services in order to make the most of the time they have. Sometimes, however, home care services are confused with various hospice services, but there are some important differences that are important to understand.

Hospice care is for patients that are terminally ill and are making the choice to end chemotherapy, radiation, and other treatments that are used to extend life. Usually patients will discontinue all their treatments except for pain medication. They simply want to live as comfortable as they can with their loved ones nearby. Hospice caregivers can often help families make hard decisions like whether or not to remain at home or in the hospital or moving to a nursing center. Often, these hospice services will offer twenty four hour care when necessary.

Often, in the case of long term illnesses or a recent surgery which will take some time to heal, those over fifty five may need home care services in order fully recover.

Home health care at this level involves assisting with the home cleaning, laundry, and transportation to grocery stores or doctor’s appointments. They will also provide assistance in the form of physical support and dispense any necessary medications.

When you are ready to hire someone to provide home care services for your loved ones, that person has to be caring, compassionate, and, most of all, qualified. If they are only going to perform household duties they don’t need to be certified, but if they are going to handle medications they should be certified as a licensed nurse’s aide.

It’s important to check the references of these potential employees as well. You should also observe how they interact with the elderly or physically challenged. This way you can discover the important details about your employees when you chose the caregiver to trust with your loved ones.

Companions are another type of home health care provider. They are not trained in administering medications or nursing, but they will offer services much like other friends. Companions might just keep the patient company in situations where it would be unsafe to leave them alone for too long, especially when they are recovering from illness or surgery.

A companion will perform simple tasks like reading to them, finding interesting things on TV, or playing board games together. They do their best to make the patient feel at ease, and then they are around to report any medical issues to the nursing caregiver if it becomes necessary.

A lot of people find themselves in a position where they are in need of home care services for a family member. Be sure to find a reliable home care agency to answer your questions and find the appropriate in home caretaker for you.
